- The Royal Ordance Factory in Kirkby had its own brigade station from its establishment in Sept. 1940 to its closure in March, 1946. There were hundred of buildings on the site and around 10,000 staff at its height

- Taken over in 1948 by Lancashire County to cover the Industrial Estate opened on the site
